STYLE NO. 3191: Classic Chelsea
The Classic Chelsea provides handcrafted comfort in a sleek pull-on silhouette. The boots fully cushioned footbed ensures immediate out-of-the-box comfort and softens each step for years. The Classic Chelsea has a carreca/foam vamp lining for around the foot comfort. Enjoy pull-on convenience and rugged heritage durability that is anchored by the iconic Traction Tred outsole.
THE HISTORY BEHIND THE STYLE
The boot dates back to England in the Victorian era. The royal cordwainer, J. Sparkes Hall, had created a boot with time-saving elasticated sides utilising vulcanised rubber, which Her Majesty Queen Victoria took to wearing during her daily strolls. In the 1950s and '60s, the boot became very popular among the dedicated followers of fashion that frequented Kings Road in the Chelsea district of London. It is commonly believed that is how the name came about. Mr Hall called them "J. Sparkes Hall's Patent Elastic Ankle Boots". Chelsea Boots is somewhat easier to say.
OIL-TANNED LEATHER
S.B. Foot Tanning Co. is best known for oil-tanned leather which is used to build a variety of timeless Red Wing styles. This leather is water, stain and perspiration resistant, and has a more natural look and feel because less finishing materials have been applied, allowing its natural beauty to shine through. Oil-tanned leather is exceptionally durable and has been used to build countless work boots throughout Red Wing’s history.
